Château de la Font du Loup is a distinguished estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, known for its exceptional Châteauneuf-du-Pape (CDP) wines. CDP wines are celebrated for their full-bodied richness and complexity, derived from the region's unique terroir of galets roulés and varied soils, which impart remarkable depth.

What sets Château de la Font du Loup apart is its emphasis on freshness and elegance. Unlike many full-bodied CDP wines, it balances robust character with a refined, vibrant profile. This blend of traditional and innovative techniques delivers a distinct expression of terroir and a unique freshness.

  • The Legend

    The Legend

    According to legend, Font du Loup, a renowned lieu-dit in the commune of Courthézon, is named after the wolves of Mont Ventoux who would descend to drink from its natural spring. This deep connection to nature and history is infused into every bottle.

  • The Winemakers

    Font du Loup has been in the Melia family since 1942, spanning four generations. It is currently run by the extremely charming Anne Charlotte Melia-Bachas and her husband Laurent, with the help of consultant Philippe Cambie.

  • The Commitment

    Château de la Font du Loup, HVE level 3 certified, is dedicated to environmental stewardship and organic farming since 2021. The estate enhances biodiversity with beehives and sheep, minimizes tractor use, and carefully selects inputs to preserve nature.

  • The Terroir

    The vineyard's sandy, rocky soil isn't ideal for retaining water, but a nearby spring creates a phreatic water table just 50 meters deep, allowing the vines to self-irrigate. Situated in one of the coolest appellations, it benefits from the slow ripening of grapes.

  • The Vinification

    Grapes are hand-picked, selected and put in small crates to keep the grapes intact. They are doing a plot fermentation in barrels or tanks with indigenous yeasts.

  • Barely 2,000 bottles produced of "Legend," made of 80% Mourvèdre and Grenache. After 24 months of ageing in demi-muids, the result is surprisingly fresh and fine. The result is surprisingly fresh and fine, with very nice notes of compound fruits and a final note of liquorice. An elegant and racy wine! So soft and yet powerful this wine is exciting giving a long and crisp mouthfeel. A real favourite!

  • The vines planted on a northern slope facing the Mistral wind and growing on alluvial sand never risk producing overripe fruit. Freshness, delicacy and elegance are the right adjectives to describe the Font du Loup wines. The white Château de la Font du Loup, a limited cuvée of 5000 bottles, seduces with its oral style, lime blossom and acacia and its aromas of white fruits (apricot, peach, pear..). Its freshness and its minerality will allow a long ageing in cellar.

  • A parcel of century-old Grenache that is the very expression of the purity of the terroir of Font du Loup. A flamboyant ruby color, a nose of cherry liqueur and candied orange zest. Silky tannins, a round, elegant, and long mouthfeel. An aromatic palette tinged with blueberry, blackcurrant, sweet spices, licorice, and noble essence of exotic wood. The creamy texture coats the palate and offers intense flavors of red and black fruits, candied lavender, and orange peel. The ensemble is profound, enveloped, and energetic.

  • Château de la Font du Loup, the estate's flagship cuvée, delicately combines black fruits, spices, and a refined floral aspect. On the palate, its silky notes of brandied cherries, licorice, and black pepper create a wine of rare elegance. It can be enjoyed young by those who are impatient and will express its freshness for many years. This cuvée is the very expression of the Crau. The grapes come from our Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cinsault vines, hand-harvested and sorted berry by berry, then vinified in temperature-controlled concrete tanks. Each grape variety is aged separately.

  • Grenache is aged in large wooden casks, Mourvèdre in demi-muids, and Syrah in barrels.
