marcoux
ORGANIC CERTIFICATION (1991)
Sisters Sophie and Catherine Armenier have elevated Marcoux to the very highest ranks. Today Sophie runs the winery, while her son Vincent looks after the vineyards. There are 25 hectares in total, with 18 hectares right in the heart of the prime Châteauneuf- du-Pape terroir of La Crau plateau with the rest in Lirac and the other Côtes du Rhône villages. Certified as organic by Ecocert as early as 1991, this year marks three decades of rigorous organic and then biodynamic principles. The wines are very colourful and generous, with consistently rich aromas of red fruit. The tannic structure is elegant, and the wines afford very good ageing potential.

Chateauneuf du Pape 2019 750ML
Red Wine
-
Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault
-
Marcoux's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape—approximately 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah and 3% Cinsault, mostly aged in concrete—offers up a complex array of dried spices and garrigue, ripe cherries and red berries. It's full-bodied, rich and tannic but ripe, with plenty of fruit to back it up, and refreshing hints of licorice on the long finish.

Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc 2023 750ML
White Wine
-
Roussanne, Bourboulence, Clairette, Grenache Blanc
-
The 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is a great effort at this address. Evoking a delicate, fresh bouquet of almonds blossom, pear, white peach and white fruits, it's medium to full-bodied, round and enveloping, precise and seamless, with a fleshy core of fruit and bright acids framed by a fresh, tense, ethereal finish.

bruno rocca
SUSTAINABLE
The Rocca family, rooted in Barbaresco since the early 19th century, transitioned to winemaking when Francesco Rocca purchased a farmstead in Rabaja in 1958. Bruno Rocca, his son, initiated the shift towards wine production, crafting the first vintage in 1978. Today, Francesco and Luiza Rocca oversee the vineyard and cellars. The Bruno Rocca estate spans 12.5 hectares across Barbaresco, Neive, and 3 hectares in Vaglio Serra, Monferrato. Specializing in Barbera d’Asti and Barbaresco wines from Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto grapes, the wines are emblemized by a feather on their labels, symbolizing the essence of the wine within.

Barbera d'Alba 2021 750ML
Red Wine
-
Barbera
-
The 2021 Barbera d'Alba, from old vines in Currà, is a rich, heady wine, its mid-weight structure notwithstanding. Succulent dark cherry, plum, licorice, mocha and spice are all dialed up. The 2021 is very good, even if the alcohol feels a bit high.

Bruno Rocca, Barbaresco Curra 2019 750ML
Red Wine
-
Nebbiolo
-
The Barbaresco Currà is dark, beguiling and super-expressive. Scorched earth, spice, menthol, licorice and graphite meld into a black cherry and plum fruit core. The tannins are pretty incisive, yet there is plenty of fruit to match. This is a stellar showing from Bruno Rocca.

mas doix
ORGANIC CERTIFICATION (2016)
The men and women of Mas Doix have been caring for and gently accompanying the Grenache and Carignan vines planted in the slate of the “llicorella” hills since 1902. The wines seek to reflect the microclimate of Poboleda and the vines that grow on them. Mas Doix start with a premise that wine is made among the vines and they elaboration is carried out with minimum intervention, so that the wines express the terroir from where they’ve come from. The wines of Mas Doix preserve the fruitiness, the freshness, the minerality and the salinity of the “llicorella” slate, the concentration and expression of each variety are key concepts when elaborating each wine at the winery.

Doix 2017 750ML
Red Wine
-
Grenache, Carignan
-
The 2017 Doix Costers de Vinyes Velles is a blend of 55% old-vine Cariñena and 45% old-vine Garnacha matured in new French oak barrels for 16 months. It has ripe black fruit, Mediterranean aromatic herbs and generous spice and smoke with a note of graphite. All of these reds reach 15% alcohol and are powerful and full-bodied, built to last. The warmer vintages tend to have a softer texture and mellow acidity with round tannins and a long, lingering finish. This matured in brand new French oak barrels for 16 months, and it's oaky but not in excess. 4,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2019.

The 2019 Salanques is powerful, seamless and quite complete, from a year of good ripeness and powerful wines but with balance. It's the same blend of 65% Garnacha, 25% Cariñena and 10% Syrah, with a pH of 3.28 and integrated oak after fermenting part of the volume in a large oak vat in their new winery. 16,000 bottles produced.
